This guide moves an Upstash Redis database to KiviDB, either a server you run yourself or KiviDB Cloud. It covers getting the data out, loading it, switching over with little downtime, and the changes your application needs.
An Upstash database answers two ways: the Redis protocol over TLS, and a REST
API that the @upstash/redis SDK uses. Both matter here. The data comes out
over the Redis protocol or as a file, and an application on @upstash/redis
can either keep its code and use KiviDB Cloud's REST API, which speaks the same
wire format, or move to a regular Redis client.
Upstash is one of the easier sources to leave:
- You can download your data as an RDB file. The console exports one on request.
DUMPandSCANwork over the Redis protocol, so a copy tool can read the database like a client and keep following changes until you switch.
Upstash bills most plans per command, and a copy tool sends a few commands for every key. The cost of a copy section estimates it before you start.
