This guide moves a database from Redis Cloud (Essentials or Pro) or from Redis Software (the self-managed product) to KiviDB, either one you run yourself or KiviDB Cloud. It covers getting the data out, loading it, switching over with little downtime, and the changes your application needs.

Redis Cloud and Redis Software do not let an outside server replicate from a database: SYNC, PSYNC and REPLICAOF are not available to you, and their own replication features (Active-Passive, Replica Of) only copy into databases of their own. That leaves two ways out:

  • A backup or export to storage you own (S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob Storage or FTP). You get RDB files, one per shard. It is a point-in-time copy.
  • A copy tool that reads keys over normal commands. It can keep following changes until you switch.
