This guide moves a dataset from Amazon ElastiCache (for Redis OSS or for Valkey, node-based or Serverless) or from Amazon MemoryDB to KiviDB, either one you run yourself or KiviDB Cloud. It covers getting the data out, loading it, switching over with little downtime, and the changes your application needs.

ElastiCache and MemoryDB do not let you replicate out of them: SYNC, PSYNC and REPLICAOF are blocked. That leaves two ways to get the data out:

  • A backup exported to S3. You get an RDB file (one per shard). It is a point-in-time copy: writes made after the backup are not in it.
  • A copy tool that reads keys over normal commands. It runs on a machine inside the VPC, and it can keep following changes until you switch.
