KiviDB Cloud vs Upstash Redis | An Upstash alternative for steady traffic

KiviDB Cloud against Upstash Redis: a flat $14.52 a month for 1 GB instead of $0.20 per 100,000 commands. Costs less above about 3 commands a second, with multi-zone replicas on Pro.

Upstash bills by the command, which is cheap for a cache that is mostly idle. KiviDB Cloud bills by the hour, $14.52 a month for 1 GB on AWS whatever the traffic, so it costs less from about 3 commands a second.

Where Upstash is the better fit

  • Mostly idle Under about 3 commands a second on average, Upstash's per-command price costs less than any always-on database, and its free tier covers 500,000 commands a month.
  • Serverless and edge functions Upstash has an HTTP API for environments that cannot hold a TCP connection open. KiviDB uses the Redis protocol over TCP.
  • Read regions around the world Upstash can add read replicas in other regions. KiviDB's replicas are in the primary's region.

Move over without a rewrite

  • Create a database On the cloud and in the region your application already runs in.
  • Bring the data Import an .rdb file as a snapshot, or replicate from your current Redis primary until you cut over.
  • Change the address Your Redis client, your commands and your code stay as they are. The compatibility page lists the few things that differ.
