KiviDB Cloud vs Amazon ElastiCache | An ElastiCache alternative

KiviDB Cloud against Amazon ElastiCache for Valkey and Redis OSS: 45% less for 5 GB with a replica, an engine that uses every core, and the same Redis clients. Also on Google Cloud and Azure.

A Redis- and Valkey-compatible database, managed on AWS in the region you already use, for 45% less than ElastiCache at 5 GB with a replica. Your Redis client connects unchanged.

Five reasons teams move from ElastiCache

  • 45% less: At 5 GB with a replica $95.54 a month on KiviDB Cloud against $174 for ElastiCache for Valkey, on its cheapest node that holds the data. 18% less at 25 GB.
  • Every core runs commands Valkey and Redis OSS run commands on one thread. KiviDB gives each core a worker of its own, so a bigger node means more throughput, not only more memory.
  • Search, vectors and JSON in the engine Full-text search, vector search, JSON documents and time series are part of the one binary, the same on every plan.
  • Not tied to AWS The same service on Google Cloud and Azure, or inside your own cloud account, with the same API and Terraform provider.
  • A price you can read One hourly rate per database, shown before you create it, with data transfer allowances included per plan.

Where ElastiCache is the better fit

  • Memcached If you run Memcached, ElastiCache offers it. KiviDB speaks the Redis protocol only.
  • Inside your VPC with no endpoint ElastiCache nodes live in your own VPC. KiviDB Cloud reaches it through PrivateLink, or runs in your own account with bring your own cloud.
  • Very small, spiky caches ElastiCache Serverless bills by data stored and requests. For a cache of a few hundred megabytes that is idle most of the day, that can cost less than any always-on node.

Move over without a rewrite

  • Create a database On the cloud and in the region your application already runs in.
  • Bring the data Import an .rdb file as a snapshot, or replicate from your current Redis primary until you cut over.
  • Change the address Your Redis client, your commands and your code stay as they are. The compatibility page lists the few things that differ.

Try it beside your ElastiCache

Create a free database in the same region, point a copy of your service at it, and compare.
